It annoys me when people show a complete lack of understanding. Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht (even his name is annoying) shows it every time he does an interview. His most recent being with IGN, who gave his game Lair a 50% score. Let’s dissect
this idiotic justification of a mediocre-at-best game.

Well, obviously we’ve got this huge gap there where basically if you read more casual comments — on Amazon, for example — to the overwhelming degree they are pretty positive.

Amazon comments are overwhelmingly positive? Shocking! The same can be said for almost every product Amazon sells. If you ever find a product on Amazon that is rated lower than 4 stars, it probably comes with an airborne flesh-eating disease. This is especially the case when you’ve got a product where people think they have something to gain by promoting a platform by calling a bad game not-that-bad (aka “fanboys”).

What’s disappointing to me is that almost every single person in and outside of the industry who is little bit more of a hardcore gamer had a huge problem with it, and we, quite frankly, didn’t anticipate that. I hope that a lot of people realize that underlying the problem they had with the base control, there actually was a really good game there. That’s at least what I think. Well, what else would I say?

What else would you say? I don’t know, how about owning up to a mistake rather than acting like it’s the gamers’ fault for not being able to look past the controls. Why not blame a quadriplegic for being unable to draw pretty pictures! Also, there is not a good game there. It’s broken in several other important ways besides the controls. Which makes this next quote even more embarrassing as he continues to not understand they have made a shitty game and should’ve gotten off the sinking ship months ago.

If we find a chance in the future that would bring Lair to the audience which didn’t get any access, that would be fantastic. I can’t say anything quite yet, but there might be something in the works there. We might have a chance yet to bring those back to the table and hopefully, if that should happen, they would give the game a second chance.

The interview ends with this quote, where Eggebrecht goes back to his ridiculously annoying old standby position that hardcore gamers didn’t like the game because they have a problem with motion controls in principle.

If you’re on a platform where this whole motion control is something new and not being pitched as the main feature of the platform, you should probably give the choice between having different control schemes, there is absolutely no doubt about it.

Ugh. Check out
this second IGN interview for even more Eggebrecht stupidity.
