There Will Be blurry video

This video made the rounds a little while ago:

It’s easy to say he’s just being a pompous ass or a Luddite because well.. David Lynch is both those things at times.  I mean this is the guy that refuses to put chapter stops on his movies’ DVDs.  But I think what he’s saying here is not so much an anti-watching-movies-on-your-phone message as it is just making sure you know the difference.  It’s fine to watch movies on your phone as long as you are aware that you are missing an important portion of the movie.  And if that’s not what he meant, well that’s my way of thinking anyway.

I bring this up now because I just watched There Will Be Blood.  And let’s just say, I did not go to the theater to watch this movie.  And it was not even a good quality DVD screener.  It was blurry, overly dark, partially out of sync audio, and a few scenes cut short.  It was not a good experience.  At first I blamed the movie, compiling a list of things I didn’t like about it in my head as the film went on.  Then it occurred to me that, hey, it’s probably just this shitty audio/video that ruined it for me!

I really should’ve stopped it as soon as I saw what the quality was like, but I just don’t have that kind of self control.  Oh well, the next time I see it will be in the theater or on DVD.

I believe the David Lynch video is from the Inland Empire dvd extras, if that’s what you meant. The TWBB copy was a “telecine” which means the actual film was put through a machine which makes a digital copy.
