Web Hosting

My website has been hosted with Dreamhost since 2004. All-in-all they were not a terrible host. They have a well designed proprietary control panel, lots of features for the price and access to manually control all those features. Where they falter is speed and uptime. And, even for (or maybe especially for) a few small websites that almost no one I don’t personally know visits, speed and uptime are a lot more important to me than having a theoretical 6 terabytes of bandwidth and 300 gigabytes of storage space.

So after some searching I found a decent web host review site, and through them found a new web host. Immediately I noticed a significant speed improvement, too soon to tell about the uptime. I do miss some of the features from Dreamhost though. There I felt like I had complete control over my site, here I feel like if I need to do something on the backend I’m going to end up talking to customer service. But customer service so far has been very quick, and the guy who helped me was the owner of the company. It’s kind of like Wal-Mart vs. your local mom & pop store.

I’m not sure what’s worse – the fact that you wrote a review on your blog for your webhost, or the fact that I went to that hostjury site and found your review there, and read it, even though the information for me is absolutely useless.

    knowledge is power?
