Corner Gas, Worst TV Show of All Time?

So I’m watching the Red Wings game last night and during a commercial break I flip around the channels and for whatever reason I stop on WGN and see this show called Corner Gas.  It’s… bad.  But I can’t tell if it’s really horrible or just.. not very good.  It feels… Canadian (and checking Wikipedia confirms that it is in fact Canadian).  I don’t know.  I think I’m confused, but I’m pretty sure I hate this show and everyone involved in its creation.  Check out some youtube clips if you’re really bored.

My god this show sucks so fucking badly. I’m from Ireland and it just suddenly appeared on my TV. I knew straight away it was a sitcom so I thought well I’ll see what it’s like, but I couldn’t even make it past the opening credits. It’s still on, burning my ear as I write this, churning my hatred of this lame, boring, badly paced and most of all terribly written farce of a comedy. Shite.

I realize this entry is months old, but i gotta say i couldn’t agree more. i’m Canadian and corner gas fucking sucks, only people with a broken sense of humour find it funny. sad thing is Canada does have actual good shows like trailer park boys and kenny vs spenny, but since theyre intended for an older audience they dont get as much publicity….

Yes corner gas is probably the worst show that was ever created but what did u mean by canadian? in NO WAY does corner gas represent canada. i can’t even believe that it’s on canada. canadians aren’t like that as much as americans are. its just saskatchewan that’s like that, and most of alberta, where like no one lives.

Sorry, but I lump Corner Gas into the same pathetic category as all Canadian entertainment. It’s a ridiculous, lame show for low-brow losers with absolutely zero intelligence and sense of wit. I’m 100% born n’ bred Canadian, and I’m not afraid to say that our entertainment media is the worst in the world. That includes our terrible excuse for “music,” our pointless, Quebec-driven independent films, and even our children’s cartoons. Over here, the bar has been lowered straight down into the mud, and I can guarantee that we will never escape the endless cycle of regurgitated, half-witted, uninspired drudgery that we keep cranking out day after day. Terrible. Simply terrible. At least the show has run its course and died. GOOD RIDDANCE!! Take Nickelback with you, and don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!

Well I guess I’ll be the opposite here and say I really like the show. Now part of it is because I live in Saskatchewan (some people DO live here by the way) and the humour is fairly spot on for prairie life here. I do admit the jokes are often too forced which I don’t find as funny as regular sitcom fare, but this show has heart and fully intends to be a little corny. No show pleases everyone’s tastes as I’m sure I hate at LEAST one of your favorite shows. There are alot of people who DO like this show, otherwise a show from the prairies would never have made it on nationwide TV for 6 seasons (since it’s such a desolate wasteland ;) )

Yep, I’m a born and bred Canadian too and this has got to be, without a single second thought, the WORST show that has every been created.

I disagree with all of you. I love Corner Gas. It’s probably one of my favourite shows. I grew up in toronto but it’s just a show about nothing.. and its fun to watch, when life can be so stressful. But that is just my opinion.

Corner Gas is just like the majority of Canadian entertainment. Worthless. Be it the films, music, or TV it mostly sucks. Canada is too influenced by the USA so the government released laws that force Candian content on the airwaves (more than 40%). This creates bands like Nickelback and shows like Corner Gas. I am Canadian by the way.

This show is reallllll unfunny. I like to think of it as “Worse Northern Exposure”. The fact that it won a bunch of Canadian awards makes me embarrassed for Canada. The only good sitcom I’ve seen from the hat is The Newsroom.

Corner gas is an amazing show. It had this thing called subtlety. You need a certain level of education to catch on. Also a childhood. Sorry, America!

I agree 100% that all Canadian entertainment (tv,music, movies – whatever) SUCKS immensely. Though Corner Gas is good. Retarded oddball humour, just like Trailer Park Boys. YOu know what else sucks?? Tim Horton’s. Just like most shite Canadian media, cheesy lame-ass TH crap would only fly in this country. Yes, born and raised here.

The first time I saw corner gas, I thought it was just awful. The jokes were so lame! But then I realized – prairie life IS lame, and that’s where the humour comes from. It’s spot on; we’re looking at a place in the world where life is slow, days are boring, and jokes are bad. You have to have that mindset when watching Corner Gas. The jokes aren’t funny until you expect them not to be, and that’s where the real humour comes from.

It’s not simple or dimwitted. It’s a clever, calculated, and funny show with a lot of heart.

I’m Canadian and find this show blows big time. This one is up there next to other embarrasments (Nickelback and Celine Dion). Absolute total dreck! What’s worse is the so-called “stars” have new shows on CTV (heavily promoted) that suck just as much. Dan For Mayor and Hiccups. Watching 5 minutes of them was pitiful. As I flipped to take a glance at this dreck, I thought I stumbled upon a TV commercial. It wasn’t! I’ve seen TV commercials better acted than this crap. Stuff like this makes me embarrassed to be a Canadian.

Packing groin-grabbingly stagnant writing, Corner Gas was beyond the pale.
Bloated yet made on the cheap Canadian discharge.
And yes now three of the cast have somehow tripped into yet another two sitcoms.
    That’s right.
    Two Canadian sitcoms.
More one page scripts populated by crippled one-liners delivered by a tepid cast aware they’re on camera evidenced by the alarming number of blank looks.
I am Canadian and this whole Gas crowd does nothing for me or the craft they butcher.
    Ahhh
Feels good to talk about it.

Having watched one episode of Dan For Mayor, I found myself more interested in seeing familiar spots in the town I live, Kitchener-Waterloo than any of the dialogue. What a poorly written embarrassment to all of the country. I know Canadians in power tend to throw lavish awards at crap, and Corner Gas was no exception so I won’t be surprised if Dan For Mayor goes a full 3-5 seasons as well. If anything, I feel more inspired to create my own TV show as my competition wouldn’t be much to worry about…all I need are a few boring old people with nothing important to say “Terrible weather…shame the cows haven’t been comin’ out to graze… Maybe I could dress up in my bull suit again and coax some of ‘em into a fuck or two!”

Corner Gas was a great show….you are all to fukken stoned on BC bud to get the humor.

Most of the best hockey players like comedians come from Canada.

The only good comedy show in the USA is American Idol…….and thats run by a fukken wanker limey fruitcake named Simon.

I love corner gas, as well as hiccups, and especially dan for mayor. You should watch it, as a representation of real life, because that’s what they’re going for; they’re not shoving stoned off your ass unrealistic stupid comedy down your throat, their presenting real situations, in a clever way. It’s kind of like a Canadian version of King of the hill (another show I like) Plus it’s an excuse to laugh at Saskatchewan even more…I can’t really pass that up.

Corner Gas is just awful – and so are the other shows mentioned (Hiccups – Dan For Mayor). These people are simply not funny, nor is the so-called writing. Plus, CBC has some lame ass comedy shows – Ron James, This Hour has 22 Minutes, Air Farce, Little Mosque – why can’t we (I’m Canadian) produce anything actually worth watching? Why can’t we produce anything genuinely funny? Have we exported all our good talent to the States? Even sadder still is that the CRTC is considering regulating Canadian internet sites to ensure Canadian quota is met! Good luck with that, but the very idea is so pathetic! Instead of creating something people want to watch we have crap forced upon us. And film… come on Canada, we can do better than this!

If this is the worst show you have ever seen than you people aren’t watching enough television. Haven’t any of you watch “family guy”? stretching 1 joke into 3 series, that is the worst show on television.
How about “so you think you can dance”… WHO CARES if you can dance!
I thought it was a good show. It didn’t try to ‘re-invent’ television, I liked the characters, and it was simple humor (not people getting repetitively punched in the junk which is what is considered ‘humor’ now).
